UltraGloss IML seasons up the spices aisle
What started off with a new cap design, eventually resulted in a completely redeveloped, sustainable paprika container that is spicing up the shelf thanks to its unconventional shape and eye-catching UltraGloss IML label.
An innovative user-friendly cap
For its Pimentón dried paprika, Carmencita was looking for a more versatile and user-friendly cap than the commonly used two-sided flip tops.
Spanish packaging producer ITC understood the assignment, introducing an innovative hinged two-sided flip top that allows consumers to dispense the dried spices in two different ways. On one side, the paprika can be sprinkled using a practical sifter, on the other side the spices can be scooped out with a spoon.
From metal container to IML packaging
The redesign didn’t stop there. In a supermarket aisle where packaging uniformity predominates, the key is to stand out. Not only in terms of high-quality ingredients and flavor, but in packaging design as well.
ITC redeveloped the Pimentón packaging from a metal container into a polypropylene mono-material IML packaging. The new design features a stylish cube geometry and an UltraGloss IML label, drawing attention on shelf and highlighting the artwork.
UltraGloss IML makes the colors in the artwork pop, a perfect choice for this product as we want the packaging to reflect the intense taste of the spices. It takes the packaging to an even higher level.

More sustainable packaging
By decorating the PP container with UltraGloss IML, the Pimentón packaging becomes mono-material. This ensures easy sorting at home for consumers and optimal recyclability.
But that’s not all. The redesign has a significant impact in terms of material use and logistics:
- The packaging weight and needed raw material were reduced by 66%!
- The enhances stackability of the cubical containers means that the amount of packages that can be transported in a lorry increases by 80%!
