Making every IML packaging unique

What is VariableData IML?
VariableData IML is a solution for unique coding on in mold labels. The unique code is printed in the same process as the IML label: for converters, brand owners or retailers, there’s no need for an extra investment or printing step to get the code on the pack.
The unique code can be integrated into the IML label's artwork, making sure the packaging's appearance remains flawless and neat.

VariableData IML allows for each label to be unique. Track and tracing, deposit legislation, data collection, brand protection or marketing purposes: whatever the reason might be to implement unique coding onto your packaging, VariableData IML suits your needs.
Which products or markets is VariableData IML useful for?
VariableData IML can be implemented on almost any IML label, however it is most useful for products in the reusable segment, drinking cups, medical applications and any other market where unique coding is required. Unique coding for traceability of reusable cups and packaging
Efficient return and redistribution
Reusable cups systems often depend on consumer behavior: end users must be involved to return the cups, which may require incentive systems such as deposit schemes, customer loyalty programs or mobile apps. Unique identifiers can track when a customer receives and returns a cup, with deposits refunded upon return.
Cleaning logs
Each cup’s cleaning cycle can be logged, ensuring that cups are properly sanitized before being redistributed to customers. This ensures health and safety standards are met, providing transparency and confidence for both businesses and consumers.
Lifecycle tracking
Cups are used and sanitized frequently, making them sensitive to wear and tear. Tracking the cup’s lifecycle helps to avoid worn-out or damaged cups remain in circulation.
Sustainability data
Metrics on reuse rates, savings in single-use cups and CO2 emissions, etc. can be easily monitored and reported. The environmental impact is measured over the long-term, across many reuse cycles, and can be communicated easily towards regulators and consumers.
Unique coding to comply with legislation
In some regions and/or market segments a unique code is a mandatory packaging element to guarantee the authenticity, quality and origin of the product inside. VariableData IML is an ideal way of adding a unique code to your packaging design in a clean, high-quality and one-step manner without the need of any investment.
Digital Product Passport
Complying with the PPWR, a unique code is the perfect carrier for detailed information about your product’s origin, materials, manufacturing process, and lifecycle. This DPP or Digital Product Passport improves transparency towards consumers, supports informed purchasing decisions and sustainable consumption.
