APR recognition for all standard IML films
A strategic advantage for packaging converters
A new milestone for IML packaging in the US, as the Association of Plastic Recyclers (APR) attributed our standard IML films Design® for Recyclability Recognition. This recognition confirms that the label meets or exceeds the voluntary requirements set by APR for technical compatibility with today’s plastics recycling processes in the US.
Why it matters
Brands and retailers aiming to display the How2Recycle (H2R) logo on their packaging, must demonstrate that their label technology complies with APR guidelines. Knowing this, APR recognition becomes more than a technical achievement: it turns into a business advantage.
“By choosing our APR-recognized Standard IML labels, converters can offer their customers a proven solution that supports recyclability claims and strengthens brand sustainability credential,” according to Nico Van de Walle, Product and Circular Economy Manager at MCC Global IML.
Technical insights
The recognition applies to:
- PP containers: Labels with up to 100% coverage.
- Colored HDPE containers: Coverage up to 75% for volumes over 550 mL and 55% for smaller containers.
These specifications ensure that the label design aligns with APR’s strictest guidance criteria under the Preferred Design Recognition pathway.
"Ensuring that products are designed for recycling leads to less waste, more efficient use of limited natural resources, and increased supply of high-quality post-consumer recycled content."
Key benefits for converters
- APR-recognized design for PP and HDPE containers
- Supports H2R (How2Recycle) logo eligibility
- Improves EPR scoring → lower fees
- Strengthens sustainability positioning
Disclaimer
APR recognition is an engineering assessment of technical compatibility, not a recyclability claim. Additional factors—such as consumer access to recycling and container sortability—must be considered before marketing a package as recyclable. MCC Label encourages responsible communication to avoid misleading claims.
